Invitation for participants: International Volunteer Camp “Danube Dragon” (Serbia)

“The Danube Dragon” is an International Summer Camp organized by the NGO “Environmental Engineering Group” (EEG) in cooperation with the partner organization Foundation “Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture 2022”. This summer camp will be held in the small village of Jazak on the slopes of the National Park „Fruška gora“ in the period from 17 July until 31 July. The aim is to gather 13 young international volunteers and two camp leaders. Participants, together with the engaged staff on the project, will participate in actions of cleaning and arranging the banks of the Danube, building applied art installations, and promoting peace, art, and environmental protection.

Note: participants will be accommodated in Jazak from 17 July until 27 July, while the rest of the summer camp from 28 July until 31 July will be accommodated in one of the student dormitories of the University of Novi Sad.

The summer camp aims to point out the importance of preserving the Danube River and directly contribute to improving the condition of the Danube shoreline near Novi Sad, by organizing actions of cleaning it and setting up applied art installations at the city beach of “Štrand” on the left bank of the Danube. The applied art installations will be made from recycled materials, such as metal, plastics, etc. In this way, these materials will get a new purpose and life in the form of artistic containers for waste disposals, which will help to better protect Novi Sad from dirt and garbage. The art installations will be temporarily set up on “Štrand” at locations that will be agreed upon later with the Public Utility Company “Gradsko zelenilo”, which manages the area. Each installed installation will represent one of the countries that make up the Danube basin. After the end of the summer camp, these installations will be moved to the Cultural District in Novi Sad, where they will be permanently installed.

The participants of the summer camp will be provided with food and accommodation. Attendance and active participation in the summer camp are mandatory for all participants. Important note – The principal language of communication will be English. Please note that participants will need to pay for their traveling and health insurance costs.

EEG invites all interested young participants aged from 18 to 30 to apply by filling out a form that can be found HERE. For more information about the summer camp, you can find it HERE.
