I come from Cornwall, which is located in the extreme South-West of England. Cornwall is mostly made up of small towns and villages and has a population of just over 0.5 million. The village I come from has only 57 inhabitants (well 56 now that I am here!) so as you can imagine life can be very quiet. The nearest town is Bude which is most famous for being a popular sea-side holiday destination since the 19th century and for the excellent surfing beaches. In the summer months millions of people come to Cornwall to enjoy the 400+ km of beaches, coastal scenery and of course the big waves. Cornwall has a rich history and is noticeable in England because it is the only region with Celtic roots and is considered one of the 6 celtic nations. For example we have our own language, Cornish although few people speak it today. Below you can see a picture I took of the "welcoming" sign as you enter Conwall. Kernow is the Cornish word for Cornwall and the 'locals only' graffiti represents the nationalist feelings of some Cornish people who would like independence from England and a lot less visitors crowding their beaches! But these ideals may not be in the best interests of Cornwall beacuse without tourism there would nothing.....just like in the winter time! Cornwall offers the some of the best surfing in Europe. I took this picture on my local beach. Radical!
