International movement "Youth encounter on Sustainability" in Serbia
This year international movement " Youth Encounter on Sustainability - YES" will organize one of its global courses in Serbia for the first time.
Owing to cooperation between the Swiss organization "Activiting talents in Sustainability - ACTIS" and organization "Environmental Engineering Group" from Serbia, a course dedicated to sustainable development, with the special focus on the development of democracy, privatization and common goods, will be held from 8th to 25th of July 2011, in Gornji Milanovac and Novi Sad.
During the course, prominent young experts and social activists coming from all over the world will be resented with the concept of sustainable development, with the special focus on the development of democracy, property transformation – privatization and common goods, i.e. common interest and common heritage – natural and cultural.
After long-standing cooperation with the Alliance for Global Sustainability and the YES movement, the organization "Environment Engineering Group" managed to convince the organizers of YES courses that Serbia deserves to be one of the countries in which a YES course will be held this year. Apart from Serbia, YES courses in 2011 will also be held in Japan, Kenya, Switzerland and Columbia.
In the opinion of "Environment Engineering Group", holding this course in Serbia is of vast importance, as future leaders in the field of sustainable development from all continents will have a chance to get acquainted with all the issues specific to Serbia regarding sustainable development, focusing on the development of democracy, privatization and common goods. At the same time, young experts from all over the world will focus their case studies exactly on certain industries in Serbia, giving clear recommendations and guidelines for attaining sustainable development in certain plants they will visit during the course.
Forty young, talented persons from all over the world will participate in the course, while lecturers and trainers will be established experts and consultants, who have cooperated for years with the YES movement in all parts of the world. In order for the participants of the course to get a better overview of Serbia and the situation in it, a certain number of domestic experts will be called to share their knowledge and experience with the participants of the course.
We hereby invite all young and talented persons interested in joining the global network for sustainable development to apply for the course in Serbia or any other course that will be held in the world this year under the auspices of the YES movement.

What is ACTIS
ACTIS is non profit, official spin off organisation of the ETH Zurich, created in January 2009 to continue and expand the successful Youth Encounter on Sustainability (YES) course concept. The small administrative team under the leadership of Dr. Roger Baud is accompanied by a group of renewed University professors and experts from different disciplines with a focus on sustainable aspects.
What ACTIS is doing
ACTIS was established with the core purpose of continuing the expansion of the YES course programs around the world, and leveraging the potential of the global alumni network of over 1200 academics and young professionals from 110 different countries and all academic disciplines. To do this ACTIS offers various YES course programs around the world, as well as special programs developed for YES alumni on particular thematic focus areas. In addition, ACTIS offers programs in education for sustainable development tailored for specific target groups, such as high school students, school teachers and university teachers and selected groups from the public and private sector.
History of YES course and movemnet
The YES course was initially developed in the year 2000 on the platform of the Alliance for Global Sustainability (AGS, www.theags.org), an international research partnership among several leading technical universities around the world (namely the ETH Zurich, MIT Cambridge, University of Tokyo, Chalmers University of Technology Gothenburg). The YES course was created as an education initiative of the AGS, and was run for 10 years under the leadership of ETHsustainability (www.sustainability.ethz.ch). The core team responsible for designing and delivering the YES courses established ACTIS as an ETH spin off organisation in 2009 in order to expand the programs of YES and to new target groups.
