Activity "Protect Fruška Gora – Take Your Garbage With You" successfully carried out

Organization "Engineers of Environmental Protection", in cooperation with National Park "Fruška Gora", Rotarakt club Novi Sad and Symphony Environment, on May 1st this year once again successfully carried out the activity "Protect Fruška Gora – Take Your Garbage With You".

Activists of "Engineers of Environmental Protection" handed out to the visitors biodegradable bags and educational material on the importance of proper waste disposal and the protection of the national park on three locations: near the petrol station on Iriški Venac, in front of sports and recreation centre "Gusle" and on Kraljeve Stolice, between 6AM and 1PM..

Despite the fact that bad weather reduced the number of those who decided to spend their holidays at the excursion site, the activity was welcomed positively; volunteers on the locations say that the lovers of Fruška Gora were acquainted with the activity and came to pick up prepared bags.

Biodegradable bags from this year’s activity were provided by the British company Symphony Environment. The Bags contain d2W additive, which reacts on UV sunlight rays, oxygen and bacteria, which enables a quick start of their degradation.

The activity "Protect Fruška Gora – Take Your Garbage With You" aimed at, apart from informing and educating citizens on the importance of environmental protection and proper waste disposal, influencing positive changes in the behaviour of each individual by handing out free biodegradable bags, in which garbage can be put and later disposed at the prescribed spots.

Within this year’s activity, 20.000 biodegradable bags with d2W additive were used, which, apart from being handed out to the visitors of the national park, were also used for cleaning before and after the holiday.

Organization "Engineers of Environmental Protection" will continue the activity in years to come.

The project is sponsored by Symphony Environmental, makers of d2w, which is included in manufacturing process and it turns ordinary plastic at the end of its useful life into a material with a different molecular structure.  At that stage it is no longer a plastic and has become a material which is inherently biodegradable in the open environment in the same way as a leaf.  For a video of d2w plastic film degrading, go to: http://degradable.net/play-videos/4
